Because I am a First Responder of 21 years and counting, I have seen it all! As I look forward to retiring in the in the next 5-8 years, I am transitioning back into the field of mental health where I started my career back in 1990. I worked in a residential treatment facility for adolescents and in psychiatric hospitals serving a widely varied population for the first 6 years of my professional career. It was then I began working toward the Master of Social Work degree.
Even though I am now the FNG (fabulous new guy) in the therapy world, I bring a wealth of experience with me! As a police officer, responding to mental health calls, negotiating conflict, and managing critical incidents have been the most rewarding parts of the job. My wife and I are also freelance writers, together having authored over 300 articles for leading law enforcement publications on a variety of subjects, including marriage, ethics, morale, emotional wellness, and managing trauma. Our writing led to traveling the country as national trainers and speakers. Our latest project is for a not-for-profit organization called Blue H.E.L.P. whose mission is to honor law enforcement officers who have committed suicide and to provide education and suicide prevention to officers, their families, and the law enforcement community. We will be speaking at their conference in October, developing curriculum, and "training the trainers."
My specialties include:
- Couples & Marriage Therapy
- Emotional Wellness
- Christian Counseling
- Job Burnout
