Because I am a First Responder of 22 years and counting, I have seen it all! As I look forward to retiring in the in the next 5-7 years, I am transitioning back into the field of mental health where I started my career back in 1990. I worked in a residential treatment facility for adolescents and in psychiatric hospitals serving a widely varied population for the first 6 years of my professional career. It was then I began working toward the Master of Social Work degree.
Even though I am now the FNG (fabulous new guy) in the therapy world, I bring a wealth of experience with me! As a police officer, responding to mental health calls, negotiating conflict, and managing critical incidents have been the most rewarding parts of the job.
My wife and I are also freelance writers, together having authored over 300 articles for leading law enforcement publications on a variety of subjects, including marriage, ethics, morale, emotional wellness, and managing trauma. Our writing led to traveling the country as national trainers and speakers.
Since my wife, Althea Olson, is also a therapist at Fox Bend Counseling, we can offer a unique collaborative approach with couples.
My specialties include:
- Couples & Marriage Therapy
- Emotional Wellness
- Christian Counseling
- Job Burnout
- First Responders
- Executive Leadership & Coaching
- Chronic Mental Illness
- Short-term and Long-term Therapy
- Personality Disorders
